“I think I can safely say that nobody understands quantum mechanics.”
— RICHARD FEYNMAN
Theoretical physicist and Nobel laureate · 1918 – 1988
Richard Feynman was an American theoretical physicist who shared the 1965 Nobel Prize in Physics for his work on quantum electrodynamics. A member of the Manhattan Project as a young man, he later became famous for his bongo-playing, safecracking and irreverent memoir Surely You're Joking, Mr. Feynman! (1985). His Caltech lectures remain a classic of science teaching, and he famously exposed the O-ring failure behind the Challenger disaster.
