— JULES VERNE
Novelist and pioneer of science fiction · 1828 – 1905
Jules Verne was a French novelist whose 'Extraordinary Voyages' series, including Journey to the Center of the Earth (1864), Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Seas (1870) and Around the World in Eighty Days (1872), made him a founding father of science fiction. Writing in Amiens, he imagined submarines, space travel and world travel long before they were practical. He remains one of the most translated authors in the world.
