— WILLIAM WORDSWORTH
Romantic poet and Poet Laureate · 1770 – 1850
William Wordsworth was an English poet who, with Samuel Taylor Coleridge, launched the Romantic movement with their joint Lyrical Ballads (1798), arguing for poetry in the language of common life. Living in the Lake District, he wrote beloved lyrics such as 'I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud' and the autobiographical epic The Prelude, published after his death. He served as Poet Laureate from 1843 until his death in 1850.
