“Who has seen the wind? Neither I nor you: but when the leaves hang trembling, the wind is passing through.”
— CHRISTINA ROSSETTI
Poet · 1830 – 1894
Christina Rossetti was an English poet of Italian descent, sister of the Pre-Raphaelite artist Dante Gabriel Rossetti, for whom she modelled. Her collection Goblin Market and Other Poems (1862) established her reputation, and her devotional verse and the carol 'In the Bleak Midwinter' kept her famous after her death. Long underrated, she is now regarded as one of the finest Victorian poets.
